Menopause causes fatigue in many women but there are some basic things that can be done to alleviate the symptoms. Hormone changes, stress and a busy lifestyle can dramatically increase the effects fatigue has on your life and your body. Extreme fatigue during menopause is sometimes called “crashing fatigue.” This symptom is sometimes accompanied by feelings of overwhelming exhaustion, weakness and a low level of energy. This crashing fatigue is caused by hormonal imbalance.
- Exercise is a great way to boost your energy. Walking for twenty minutes can increase your energy level and improve your mental outlook.
- Drinking water is recommended to combat fatigue. Dehydration can decrease alertness and concentration.
- Sometimes the solution could be as simple as going to bed at an earlier time. Fatigue can often be brought on or increased by lack of sleep. Sleeping longer can help you have more energy during the day.
Fatigue can also be a sign of more serious illnesses such as anemia, diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthryroidism, celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney disease, liver disease, coronary artery disease, or another medical problem. It is sometimes difficult to tell whether the fatigue a woman is experiencing is due to menopause or one of these or any other secondary symptom. Night sweats and sleep disturbances, may also be causing the fatigue.
